August 2017 – A leg for Naing Ling

Naing Ling, a student at the Palaung boarding home, was born with missing fingers, toes and a leg. Despite his handicap, his smile has always been radiant. Aged 15, he participates in all the activities at his boarding home. He plays football, rides a bike, dances and walks 30mins to school and 30mins back, every day. While living with his family, he collects tea leaves on the steep slopes of the Palaung hills. Coming from a poor family, his family never considered the possibility of a prosthetic leg. Furthermore, his family took him out of the boarding home and government school, because they simply couldn’t afford it. Thanks to a generous supporter from TOP, we were able to fulfil one of his dreams.

It wasn’t easy to obtain the prosthetic leg, but God opened up the door for him to get the leg through the military hospital close to Kalaw. Currently and for the first time in his life, Naing Ling is getting used to walking without crutches.
